Joe Aribo in post Rangers EPL reality check as five brutal minutes leave him 'bitterly frustrated'

Joe Aribo says another Premier League goal following his exit from Rangers has been left bittersweet after a Southampton collapse showed him the division's brutal nature.

The playmaker netted his second for the St Mary's side against Frank Lampard's Everton but were soon stung by two strikes in two minutes by Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil, both goals coming within five minutes of Aribo's. It's the second time they've lost from a winning position this season and it places them 16th after two wins from eight opening matches.

The attacking midfielder has made himself an ever-present for the St Mary's side since joining from Rangers but insists his feelings aren't over adding to his tally; they are of frustration, telling club media: "The boys are really disappointed. Going a goal ahead, it’s really frustrating to concede so soon, and the boys are disappointed because we wanted to get a result today and that wasn’t the case.

“I was thinking about it earlier that we’ve been coming from behind, so to get a goal ahead was a good feeling. To concede so soon is bitterly frustrating.

"Me and the boys were really not happy about it. We need to go back to the drawing board, focus and learn from our mistakes.

“That’s the Premier League. Sometimes if you don’t take your chances, you get punished – that’s the game. If you make mistakes, you get punished also."
