Jockey Gavin Sheehan was ruled out of riding on Ladies Day at the Grand National meeting by a failed breath test.
The sportsman, who has won nearly 600 races in his career, was stood down by the stewards. Sheehan had been booked for Speech Bubble in the first race on Ladies Day. Davy Russell took over for a fifth-place finish in the Grade 3 20 Years Together, Alder Hey & Aintree Handicap Hurdle, won by 4-1 joint favourite Langer Dan.
The British Horseracing Authority stewards' report read: "The jockey sampling officer reported that Gavin Sheehan had provided a sample that was found to contain alcohol above the threshold level for breath samples.
"The rider and the sampling officer were interviewed. The matter was referred to the head office of the British Horseracing Authority and Sheehan was stood down from riding for the rest of the day."
Sheehan, closing in on prize money of £5.7 million in his race-riding career, was not due to take part in the Grand National.
Instead he is scheduled to make a trip to Newcastle for one opportunity. He is scheduled to ride Git Maker on the weekend.
As well as his trip to Newcastle, he is also down for two rides at Statford on Sunday.
The multiple Grade 1-winning jockey had four rides at Ffos Las on Thursday In January, former champion conditional Sheehan celebrated his 500th triumph at Bangor and his biggest success overall was on Cole Harden in the 2015 Ladbrokes World Hurdle.
