Jobs at risk as Falkirk Central Retail Park's Poundland faces closure

A number of jobs are at risk with one of Falkirk 's Poundland stores is facing closure as soon as next week.

Staff members say that the current building lease is almost up, but bosses are struggling to agree new terms with the landlord.

They claim to have been told that jobs are likely to be lost and the shop could be closed by this time next week.

However, Poundland chiefs say that all is being done to negotiate terms and conditions with the buildings owner.

Speaking to Falkirk Live, one member of staff who didn't want to be named, said: "It's looking like we are going to lose our jobs here.

"We're not really being told much apart from negotiations are continuing to agree terms with the landlord.

"But from what we have been told, it's not looking good and the place is going to be closed.

"And that could be as soon as next week."

A Poundland spokesperson said: "Of course, we’d like to keep our store at Falkirk Central Retail Park open for customers and our colleagues. But the lease is due for renewal and we need to agree terms with the landlord.

"As and when we've got any firm news, we'll let you know.

"Our other Falkirk store in the Howgate Centre is not affected and remains open as usual."
