Job in Scotland pays £100,000 and you can choose when you work - but there's a catch

A job in Scotland could see successful applicants work over six-month periods that suit them and earn nearly £100,000 - but there's a catch.

The vacancy that has been listed is for an unnamed "world leader in the energy market" and is looking for someone to take on the role of an offshore rigger based in the North Sea, just off the coast of Aberdeen. A successful applicant would be paid a basic rate of £367 a day for 12-hour shifts on an oil rig.

Taking this daily rate into account, if a successful applicant took on two six-month contracts over two years - including a gap in between - they could earn around £95,420 overall.

As reported by the Mirror, the role is currently open on Indeed and five candidates will be selected. According to recruitment firm MDE Consultants, contracts vary from one to six months and you can choose from "various dates and trips available".

"I am currently seeking several Riggers for various Work-scopes across the North Sea," the listing states. "My client is a world leader in the energy market and the work will be conducted on several North Sea Assets."

However, you will need to get specific safety and technical training such as BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training), FOET (Further Offshore Emergency Training), CA-EBS (Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System), and OGUK Medical training.

And on top of that, you would be accepting a role that has a reputation for being potentially dangerous and incredibly hard-going.

One ex-oil rigger of 17 years told the Mirror that his experience was "monstrous" and an "isolating experience" which could drive people to "open hostility".

You would be dealing with isolation, extreme weather conditions, and long hours in which you may be operating heavy machinery.
