Joanna Gaines’ Holiday Table is a Timeless Classic - and From Just $7.99, I’m Shopping Every Piece

Joanna Gaines sat in armchair beside table with candle and mug.

As much as I adore experimenting with design styles and trends, there's nothing quite as magical to me as a traditional Christmas table. All my Christmas decorating ideas come back to classic prints and color palettes – and Joanna Gaines just brought my dream look to life in a tablescaping video showcasing new pieces from her Hearth & Hand with Magnolia kitchen and dining collection.

What I love most about this particular holiday table is its sense of warm nostalgia. You'll notice plenty of 'cabin kitsch' tableware in Joanna Gaines' new Target drop, and there's a also a distinctly retro feel to Joanna's video – but tempering any sense of cliché is an undeniable feeling of sophistication. Combining festive plaid patterns with hues of forest green and scarlet, this tablescape feels cozy, timeless, and undoubtedly traditional.

When it comes to holiday decor themes for Christmas this year, Joanna's tablescape taps into one of the biggest trends we're seeing right now: the heritage revival. Think Ralph Lauren-inspired tableware – or any nostalgic look which brings together luxurious textures, deep festive colors and familiar prints. The result is a scheme that feels both elegant and warm, just like Joanna's.

Using a signature plaid table runner as a backdrop, Joanna layers classic carved edge dinner plates with tree icon ribbed edge plates. My favorite touch is a set of trim cloth napkins boasting embroidered edges and intricate Christmas tree motifs. Wonderfully festive with a hint of retro, they tie together those signature holiday colors and prove that a traditional look really doesn't date.

Red and green hues prevail, but Joanna expertly weaves in touches of vintage-inspired glamor to her table: I spotted the gold novelty chargers nestled beneath her dinnerware, with a sleek gold flatware set to match. For a final antique-style touch, fluted coupe glasses stand beside a green stoneware footed serve bowl and a greenery centerpiece with brass candle holders, which showcases a set of soft twisted taper candles.

Hone in on certain aspects of Joanna's holiday table – the red taper candles, the gold accents – and the look is dramatic and indulgent. Styled with cheerful plaid touches and festive motifs, however, it suddenly becomes relaxed and effortlessly inviting. Taking cues from the Ralph Lauren Christmas decor trend, this is a truly timeless tablescape – and it's all the evidence I need that classic aesthetics really do endure.

From the chargers to the dinnerware, you might have noticed Joanna Gaines' appreciation for the scalloped decor trend, too. 'I keep thinking I'm going to get tired of scallops, but it's only getting worse,' she remarked in a recent Instagram video – and there's plenty of scalloped decor on offer at Magnolia, too.
