About 195,000 JKMAX heated blankets and heating pads are being recalled after the company learned of 577 reports of the products smoking, melting, or burning because their heating elements overheated, including 53 burn injuries. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Sept. 17 and told owners to stop using the products immediately.
The timing matters for households. Many families pull out heated blankets and heating pads as nights turn cooler in late September and October. Because these products were sold online, a recalled unit could be on a bed, couch, or office chair in any home that ordered one.
