Author JK Rowling has once again expressed her disapproval of celebrities who advocate for transgender rights, including Harry Potter actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. This follows the release of an independent review of gender identity services for children and young people on the NHS by paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass.
Dr. Cass highlighted the lack of long-term evidence on interventions for gender-related distress and criticized the current system. She recommended caution in providing hormones before age 18 and called for a review of the policy on giving testosterone or oestrogen to children at age 16.
Rowling took to social media to share her frustration over the findings of the Cass report, expressing anger towards those she believes are complicit in eroding women's rights. She specifically called out celebrities who support the transitioning of minors and urged them to apologize to detransitioners and women in need of single-sex spaces.
In response to Rowling's comments, Radcliffe reaffirmed his support for transgender women, emphasizing that they are who they say they are and deserve respect. He cited the discrimination faced by transgender and nonbinary youth and stressed the importance of supporting and validating their identities.
Similarly, Watson expressed solidarity with the transgender community, asserting that trans people deserve to live without constant questioning or invalidation. She reassured her trans followers of her respect and love for them.
The ongoing debate surrounding transgender rights highlights the need for greater understanding and support for transgender and nonbinary individuals. Advocates like Radcliffe and Watson continue to stand up for the rights and identities of the transgender community amidst differing opinions.
