Jimmy Kimmel has urged viewers to “never watch CBS again” after The Late Show with Stephen Colbert's finale on Thursday (21 May).
Kimmel reminded his audience that his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be going dark in support of Colbert and his team, whom he praised as “glorious”.
In a swipe at the network, Kimmel said: “I hope the people who did the pushing feel ashamed of themselves tonight, although I know they probably won’t.”
He said that he will be tuning into the finale of Colbert’s show to wish them a “fond farewell”, but then will no longer be watching CBS. “Don’t ever watch it again,” he urged.
CBS’s long-running Late Show franchise comes to an end on Thursday after 33 years. It originated in 1993 with David Letterman, who later passed the torch to Colbert in 2015.
The network announced the cancellation last July in a statement, describing Colbert as “irreplaceable” and citing a “financial decision.”
