Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly has found a new home.
The Los Angeles Rams agreed to sign Garoppolo to a one-year contract in free agency, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday.
Garoppolo officially became a free agent Wednesday when the Las Vegas Raiders cut him shortly after signing Gardner Minshew to compete for the starting quarterback job with Aiden O’Connell.
Garoppolo signed a three-year contract with Las Vegas last offseason to become the Raiders’ answer at quarterback. However, he struggled in six starts—throwing seven touchdown passes and nine interceptions with a 77.7 passer rating—and was benched for good in favor of O’Connell in Week 9.
The 32-year-old quarterback has appeared in 81 games (63 starts) over his 10-year career, throwing 94 touchdown passes and 51 interceptions with a 97.6 passer rating. He led the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl LIV in the 2019 season, only to fall short to the Kansas City Chiefs, 31–20.
Garoppolo returned to San Francisco in 2022 to be Trey Lance’s backup and started 10 games that season when Lance went down with injury. However, Garoppolo suffered a season-ending foot injury in December, and the 49ers moved on to Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy, who led them to Super Bowl LVIII in February.
Now back in the NFC West division, Garoppolo will serve as quarterback Matthew Stafford’s backup in Los Angeles.
Garoppolo will serve a two-game suspension in 2024 for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing substance policy.
