Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale Plunks Down $2 Million in Latest Bet

The start of the 2023 MLB playoffs commences on Oct. 3, which means sports bettors will be looking to place wagers on the exciting action from the diamond.

Among those bettors who heavily invest in MLB future playoff wagering is Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale.

After placing a $1.9 million bet on the Astros at odds of +600 back in March, the Texas furniture businessman has placed a new $2 million bet on Houston on Friday to win the 2023 World Series at the same odds at DraftKings that would return a $12 million payout.

The popular sports bettor earned the biggest payout in sports betting history after winning $75 million last year when the Astros beat the Phillies in the 2022 World Series.

The Astros, who own a half-game lead over Rangers in the AL West, are also trying to hold off the hard-charging Mariners, who are just 1.5 games behind heading into Friday night’s action.

Houston, which has won the AL West in five of the last six years, will be aiming for the division crown in order to avoid a potential wild-card round matchup with either the Rays or Orioles.

McIngvale often uses these bets as a promotional tool at his Texas furniture stores. If the Astros win, customers would receive a significant cash refund on their purchases.

Despite his big win last year, “Mattress Mack” has not always found financial success wagering on sports. The successful business man most notably lost $2 million on the Cowboys in their playoff loss to the 49ers while also suffering a $4 million loss after Houston failed to win the 2023 men’s NCAA basketball tournament.
