Kris Commons reckons Jim Goodwin showed his "inexperience" in hitting out at Ryan Porteous following Aberdeen's defeat to Hibs.
The Dons boss is facing potential SFA action as he let rip at the Hibs defender and the officials, insisting Porteous had conned them to win a penalty that also saw Liam Scales sent off. The Easter Road side went on to record a comfortable 3-1 home victory as Martin Boyle converted the spot-kick and Josh Campbell struck twice in the second-half.
After a livid Goodwin slaughtered Porteous and branded him a cheat, it's understood Hibs bosses contacted Aberdeen to complain. The Pittodrie gaffer could now be in line for a touchline ban with the SFA set to examine his post-match comments. Pundit and former Celtic star Commons reckons Goodwin may just live to regret the outburst. He wrote in his Daily Mail column: " Jim Goodwin showed his inexperience as a manager with his post-match comments about Ryan Porteous at Easter Road."
Commons continued: "Most managers would normally go into the post-match press conference and say they were disappointed by the penalty decision and possibly not want to comment any further in case they got in trouble. However, Goodwin is still coming across like the tough-tackling midfielder from his playing days when he always wore his heart on his sleeve.
"It was unfair to brand Porteous a diver. That's a big statement to make about a player. You are basically saying someone is a cheat. That somebody has conned you out of a point or all three points.
"When you brand someone a diver, it's normally when there's been no contact. But Porteous did not dive. Both players went down following a scuffle, during which both were wrestling and trying to gain ground. It was six and half-a-dozen.
"It looked like they were running a three-legged race. If one went down, they both went down. Of course, you want your manager to be honest in his appraisal of an incident, but Goodwin's only going to get himself and his club in trouble. I suspect in the cold light of day he may want to retract his comments about Porteous."
Goodwin revealed he'd warned his players to be careful around Porteous in the area - and even flagged it up to referee David Dickinson pre-match. The manager said on Saturday: “I don’t know how many times the boy Porteous can get away with that kind of stuff. We’re telling our players in midweek to be careful with him in the box and not to touch him as he will go over.
"I actually had a laugh and a joke with the referee prior to the game to make him aware of it. Unfortunately just before half-time he was sucked in hook, line and sinker. Bought it. We showed our players a number of instances when Porteous has won penalties like that in the past.
“People will say he’s good at it and he’s clever - but it’s blatant cheating as far as I’m concerned and it’s cost my team points. I told him (Porteous) to his face after the game what I thought of him. He knows. He’s laughing about it. He celebrates winning penalty-kicks like he’s scored a goal.”
