Jim Goodwin has admitted he wants to add another defender to his Aberdeen squad before the transfer window closes.
The Dons have already been active this month bringing in Graeme Shinnie and Patrik Myslovic on loan, respectively, from Wigan Athletic and MSK Zilina. Goodwin still thinks he is short in defence and would like another one in that area, which is likely to be a loan from an English Premier League club.
Tranmere defender Josh Dacres-Cogley remains a pre-contract target. “The window is open for a few weeks yet so we’ll continue to keep our eyes on what becomes available.," said Goodwin. "Our head of recruitment and our scouts are working tirelessly behind the scenes but the January window isn’t one when I like to do too much in terms of volume. I wanted to sign two or three bits of quality and we’ve done that with Shinnie and Patrik Myslovic from MSK Zilina.
“We could potentially do with another defender, just in case anything was to happen to Anthony Stewart and Liam Scales but there’s no point in bringing one in just for the sake of it. Whoever we would bring in has to be good enough to handle the level of expectation we have.”
On-loan Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson has been linked with Queen’s Park Rangers and West Bromwich Albion in recent days but Goodwin stated last week that he has been given the green light to remain at Pittodrie for the season.
