Jim Goodwin makes embarrassing Aberdeen getaway after Dave Cormack hug

Humiliated Jim Goodwin felt compelled to high tail it out of Easter Road after the axe fell on him – and the images paint a sad picture.

Goodwin was given one last chance by chairman Dave Cormack but failed to seize it as his Aberdeen side were trounced 6-0 by Hibs. Cormack’s stay of execution lasted three days – and 19 minutes after full time in Leith. Cormack revealed Goodwin’s final words in the post-match debrief as the emotional Pittodrie chief was nearly reduced to tears. He said the Irishman told him, "I know, Dave, it's simply not good enough" before giving him a hug.

But although that was seen as dignified, the sight of the axed boss crossing the Easter Road turf – bag in hand – before jumping across the advertising boards was perhaps not. Hibs players watched on from the pitch during the warm down and were visibly stunned.

He was told his time was up right on full time during the exchange with his boss. Goodwin did not travel back with the Aberdeen team bus.
