Jim Caldwell refutes report of turning down interview with Vikings

Head coaching candidate Jim Caldwell is refuting a report that he turned down requests for job interviews with the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders. On Saturday morning, the former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts head coach went on social media to set the record straight.

“I would like to correct an erroneous report that I turned down opportunities to interview for the head coaching job with Minnesota and Las Vegas. Those reports are not true,” wrote Caldwell. “I have profound respect for both organizations and for the Wilf and Davis families and I did not decline any opportunity to interview with them.”

ESPN’s Dan Graziano broke the news in a story on Friday.

There were thoughts that Caldwell might have had an imminent deal with another team that turned him off from other interviews.

Now, the question is whether the former coach will be interviewed in the future by a team like the Vikings, who appear to be closing in on their new general manager choice.

Once that person is locked in, the organization can begin to rebuild the structural pieces around a team that’s far too talented to be sitting at home on playoff weekend.
