Jhon Duran: Aston Villa super-sub signs new contract after Chelsea and West Ham interest

Aston Villa have confirmed that striker Jhon Duran has signed a new and improved contract, which will keep him with the club until 2030.

The 20-year-old’s previous deal ran until 2028, but it has now been extended to reflect his growing standing in the squad, and as a reward for his stunning form so far this season.

Despite mostly being used as a substitute, Duran has scored six times in 10 games across all competitions this term already, including winners against Everton, West Ham and Leicester in the Premier League, and famously against Bayern Munich in the Champions League at Villa Park last week.

Capped 12 times at senior international level by Colombia, Duran joined Villa in January 2023 from Major League Soccer (MLS) side Chicago Fire for an £18million fee, and has made a total of 59 appearances for the club to date.

He had been linked with a move away from Villa in the summer, with both Chelsea and West Ham exploring moves after the Blues also registered an initial interest in January, but has now committed his long-term future to Unai Emery’s side.
