Jets worked out La’el Collins Tuesday

In the wake of losing offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker with a season-ending Achilles injury, the Jets are starting to vest their options at the right tackle position. That including Tuesday in which they worked out veteran La’el Collins.

The 30-year-old Collins has been in the league since 2015, playing for the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals. He has played in 89 games with 86 starts, including 15 last season at right tackle for the Bengals before suffering a torn ACL and MCL in Week 16.

Collins had been recovering from that injury and started this season on the physically unable to perform list for the Bengals before being released after Week 1. He has been cleared to play.

Collins would add a veteran player with plenty of experience to a team that still believes they can compete and just need to plug in holes. That said, Collins graded poorly in pass-blocking by Pro Football Focus on 2022. The Jets had played Max Mitchell in Vera-Tucker’s spot during Sunday’s win over the Broncos.

Collins is also set to visit the Giants, who also added Yodny Cajuste to their practice squad this week. Cajuste spent part of the offseason with the Jets this summer.
