It was reported Tuesday that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was considering New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a candidate to join him as a running mate on the independent presidential ticket.
While the reactions to Rebecca Davis O’Brien’s report in the New York Times varied, Rodgers’s teammate, cornerback Sauce Gardner, couldn’t help but joke on social media. New York’s budding star, who even has a secret handshake with his quarterback, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to have fun with the news.
“Ohhhh, Aaron bouta become the VP.. That’s why he ain’t been answering my text messages,” Rodgers posted on X.

The 23-year-old was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft by the Jets and was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He also made the Pro Bowl in his first two NFL seasons.
Rodgers is set for his return to the field next year after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury on the first drive of the Jets’ 2023 season. Although The New York Times report says Kennedy and Rodgers have been speaking “pretty continuously,” there may be a bit of a timing conflict between the NFL season and campaign season.
