Jets officially announce Haason Reddick trade

This is not an April Fool’s joke, Haason Reddick is officially a member of the New York Jets. The team officially announced the move Monday.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in 2026. The pick becomes a second-rounder if Reddick plays at least 67.5 percent of the snaps this season and records at least 10 sacks.

If Reddick continues his current pace, hitting the sack condition should be no trouble. Reddick has posted double-digit sacks in four straight seasons, doing so for three different teams (Eagles, Panthers, Cardinals). He was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his two seasons with the Eagles.

The snap count will be an interesting one to follow, given the way the Jets rotate their defensive linemen. The highest snap percentage among defensive linemen in 2023 for the Jets was defensive tackle Quinnen Williams at 68.5 percent. Jermaine Johnson, who had 7.5 sacks, played 65.8% of the snaps. Every other defensive linemen played under 60%. Setting the mark at 67.5% could be the cusp for Reddick, but if he does hit the mark, the Jets will gladly hand over a second-round pick in two years to the Eagles.

Reddick has totaled 51 sacks over the past four seasons, which is fourth-most in the NFL in that time. Only Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt (62), Cleveland’s Myles Garrett (58) and Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson (53) have more.

The Jets were looking for a veteran pass-rusher after losing 2023 sack leader Bryce Huff (10 sacks in 2023) to the Eagles. They had eyed Jadeveon Clowney (signed with Carolina) and Shaq Barrett (signed with Miami). They get their man in Reddick in what is a make-or-break season in Florham Park. Reddick joins Johnson, John Franklin-Myers and Will McDonald in what should be another strong season on the edge for the Jets.
