Derek Carr has officially said goodbye to the Las Vegas Raiders and it appears the team is preparing to move him as soon as possible. There will be several suitors for Carr, especially considering how reasonable his contract is for the next two years.
But what team would make the most sense for Carr at this stage of his career?
In a recent article by Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus, he named several landing spots for Carr. One of the top fits is the New York Jets, who haven’t found consistent quarterback play in years. Here is why Spielberger believes Carr would make the most sense in New York:
“The Jets have the lowest PFF passing grade in the NFL since 2018, and now with one of the league’s best young defenses and a quality group of young pass-catchers led by potential Offensive Rookie of the Year in wide receiver Garrett Wilson, acquiring a high-floor veteran like Carr makes too much sense.
If this 2022 version of the Jets had Carr under center, they probably win 10-plus games and are preparing for a wild-card matchup this weekend.”
Carr would be a significant upgrade for the Jets and he would provide some leadership to an organization that needs it. What would be the cost of acquiring Carr? That remains to be seen. But expect the Jets to be one of the several teams expected to inquire about Carr over the next few weeks.
