The Jets watched their draft stock improve Monday night without having to do a thing. After defeating the Houston Texans Sunday, the Jets improved to 5-8. Following Sunday’s results, they landed in the No. 9 spot in the draft order, via Tankathon. The Jets were one of four teams with a 5-8 record entering Monday.
With the Giants defeating the Packers and the Titans shocking the Dolphins, there are now six teams at 5-8 — Jets, Giants, Titans, Chargers, Raiders, Bears.
The Giants and Titans have stronger schedules than the Jets, so as a result, the Jets moved up two spots to No. 7 Monday night thanks to their wins. They were already ahead of the Chargers entering Monday. New York sits behind Chicago and Las Vegas in the pecking order.
The Panthers have the worst record at 1-12 and no other team has fewer than three wins, so the odds of Carolina gifting the No. 1 pick to Chicago are very strong. Following Carolina sits New England and Arizona, both at 3-10, with Washington (4-9) sitting fourth.
The Jets are still playing to win and the possibility is still out there that Aaron Rodgers returns this season. But as of now, the Jets are in a good position in the draft.
In case you’re wondering, the Jets would have been No. 4 if they had lost to the Texans.
