Former Tennessee Titans coordinator Todd Downing has found a new home, as the New York Jets are reportedly hiring him as their new passing-game coordinator – no, that is not a typo.
The man who oversaw one of worst passing attacks in the NFL last season is landing a job as the Jets’ pass-game coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Downing was fired back in January after two awful seasons calling the plays for Tennessee’s offense. Granted, the Titans lacked talent in their receiving corps. in 2022, but Downing did nothing to help elevate the offense.
On top of his issues on the field, Downing also ran into them off it. He was arrested for DUI and speeding back in November. He has since served his time.
The #Jets not only helped their offensive staff but… can now be linked to another potentially available QB this offseason.
— Nathaniel Hackett = Aaron Rodgers
— Todd Downing = Ryan Tannehill + Derek Carr
— Robert Saleh = Jimmy Garoppolo https://t.co/N9HRTNH4hS— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 13, 2023
Downing isn’t the only former Titans coach landing in the Big Apple, as the Jets also hired Keith Carter as their offensive line coach after a lackluster stint in Nashville.
Downing joins an offense that will be led by offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who oversaw one of the worst offenses in the NFL in 2022 as head coach of the Denver Broncos.
