A spectacular second-half goal from Philippines striker Sarina Bolden has lifted Newcastle to a thrilling 4-2 A-League Women win over Western United.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Perth Glory's meeting with Sydney FC ended in the season's first goalless stalemate at Macedonia Park while Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers settled for a 1-1 draw at Perry Park.

With scores 2-2 at Newcastle's No.2 Sportsground, Bolden chased a clinical long pass from departing teammate Emily van Egmond and lobbed the goalkeeper with a right-footed strike from outside the box in the 69th minute.

Lauren Allan sealed the win with her second goal of the evening before Newcastle had a fifth goal, to Melina Ayres, ruled offside.

It was 10th-placed Newcastle's first home win of the season and came after six defeats from their past seven games on their own turf.

Allan led the charge in the first half with two attempts before finally netting the opener on 25 minutes, assisted by Bolden.

Matildas midfielder Chloe Logarzo equalised in the 53rd minute after being gifted a penalty following a foul by American goalkeeper Isobel Nino on Hannah Keane.

Van Egmond put Newcastle back in front on 62 minutes but the party was cut short just two minutes later when Stacey Papadopoulos slotted home her first career goal to level again for United.

Determined to seal the perfect send-off at the end of her four-game guest stint before returning to the San Diego Wave, van Egmond sliced through in midfield to provide Bolden with her second.

Brimming with confidence after a defiant 3-1 victory over Melbourne City last round, ladder leaders Glory withstood relentless Sydney FC attacking in 0-0 draw.

Spearheaded by Princess Ibini, the Sky Blues dominated with possession and six shots at target to Glory's none at halftime.

Perth managed just three shots across the match, while the visitors finished with 11.

Glory goalkeeper Morgan Aquino was a shining light, proving a brick wall for the reigning premiers and champions with nine saves.

In five contests on home soil this season, Perth remain undefeated with three wins and two draws, prolonging a 10-match unbeaten home streak dating back to January 15.

Matildas star Cortnee Vine came off the bench after the main break but was unable to have any impact.

Earlier, in Brisbane, American striker Mia Corbin lit up the first half in the 25th minute with a brilliant individual goal for the Roar.

Brisbane have endured mixed fortunes so far this season and were striving to snap a five-game losing streak.

Sophie Harding condemned the Roar to further struggles when she netted her sixth goal in four games after 50 minutes.

Brisbane's six winless games is their longest run without victory in their history in the competition.
