A flight from Newcastle had to be diverted over the weekend after a passenger fell ill on board. The Jet2 flight LS517 departed from Newcastle International Airport at around 3.40pm on Sunday, June 4, to transport holidaymakers to the Spanish island of Tenerife.
The flight was scheduled to arrive at the popular holiday destination at 20.30. But flight trackers show that whilst en route the aircraft had to make a sudden diversion. Just over two hours into the flight the aircraft was redirected to Porto in Portugal. Jet2 have since confirmed that the flight was diverted "due to a customer requiring medical attention".

A Jet2 spokesperson said: "Flight LS517 from Newcastle International to Tenerife diverted to Porto on Sunday (4th June), due to a customer requiring medical attention."
It comes exactly one month after a TUI flight to Gran Canaria had to return back to Newcastle after a member of the crew became unwell. The flight, TOM1424, turned back to the city and the airline apologised to passengers who had to return "shortly after take-off".
The airline said that a new flight would take everyone to their holiday destinations the following day and overnight accommodation was available to those who needed it.
