Matildas veteran Chloe Logarzo Berryhill was stretchered off with a potentially career-ending injury as Western Sydney drew 1-1 with Brisbane in the A-League Women.
Earlier on Friday, Newcastle pulled off one of the boilovers of the A-League Women season with a stunning 3-1 victory over leaders Melbourne City.
But the day's football was overshadowed by the injury to Logarzo Berryhill, who joined Western Sydney in a bid to make the Matildas' Asian Cup squad in her final season of professional football before retiring.
With Western Sydney up 1-0 in the 90th minute, after Ella Buchanan's 83rd-minute goal, Logarzo Berryhill and Brisbane defender Leia Varley both attacked the ball.
The Brisbane defender clattered into the star Wanderer's leg and Logarzo Berryhill immediately went down screaming and grabbing at her right knee.
The 31-year-old previously tore the ACL in her right knee in 2021.
The Wanderers were down to 10 players after a tearful Logarzo Berryhill was stretchered off and Brisbane's Bente Jansen scrambled home a late equaliser.
Earlier, Newcastle claimed their first win over the ALW powerhouse since City joined the league in 2015.
City had been in ominous form despite being without first-choice midfielders Laura Hughes and Leah Davidson through injury.
But they couldn't handle the Jets' aggressive pressing and lethal counter-attack as the visitors claimed a deserved victory at AAMI Park, snapping City's four-game winning streak.

Leat dived the right way, but Holly McNamara coolly fired an unreachable spot-kick into the top corner.
Newcastle regained the lead in the 66th minute when Mieres was playing out from the back and attempted to pass to Karly Roestbakken, only for Libby Copus-Brown to nip in, steal possession and score.
Five minutes later, the Jets broke down the left and Ayres brilliantly backheeled the ball into the path of Chloe Lancaster, who beat Mieres with a scintillating strike.
