Jesy Nelson’s emotional interview with Streeting over SMA screening to be shown in documentary

  • The documentary features Nelson's tearful interview with former health secretary Wes Streeting , in which she questioned why SMA screening was not already a standard part of newborn testing.
  • Nelson expressed her frustration and heartbreak over her daughters' delayed diagnosis, believing early screening could have prevented some of the devastating effects of SMA.
  • The Department of Health announced that a national newborn screening programme for SMA will be rolled out across England from the end of this year, following an evaluation programme.
