Jesse Marsch insists he is enjoying the way Leeds United are looking to build in their 'own way' despite the success Newcastle have enjoyed following their mega-money takeover. The Whites are set to round off their 2022 with a trip to the north east on New Year's Eve against a Newcastle side who are now among the best in the division.
The Magpies currently sit third in the table after 16 matches, a far cry from where they were at the beginning of the year when a 1-0 win for Howe's side at Elland Road was just their second of the season. Newcastle's rise has coincided with the significant investment they have received from their new owners, spending over £200 million across two transfer windows in 2022.
Leeds, meanwhile, are on the other end of the scale when it comes to transfer outlay - investing smartly in bright young talents and only spending what they accumulated from incoming transfer fees in the summer. Speaking ahead of the two sides' meeting, Marsch admitted while money is 'always helpful' in football, he likes the 'identity' that Leeds have built and are looking to improve on in the coming years.
