Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch claims the Premier League's decision to reinstate five substitutes will only benefit the game. The organisation was the only one in Europe's top divisions to get rid of the rule in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The rule was introduced back in 2020 to help ease the strains on matchday squads in the coronavirus pandemic, but the Premier League scrapped the rule for the 2020/21 campaign. There has been plenty of debate surrounding the rule change with the likes of Jurgen Klopp an advocate for it to return to the Premier League.
In a statement released today the Premier League said: "Clubs agreed to change the rules relating to substitute players. From next season, clubs will be permitted to use five substitutions, to be made on three occasions during a match, with an additional opportunity at half-time. A total of nine substitutes can be named on the team sheet."
