Jesse Marsch courage praised as decision to start Crysencio Summerville pays off for Leeds United

Chris Sutton has praised Jesse Marsch for the courage to throw in a youngster like Crysencio Summerville despite the pressure he found himself under. Summerville was handed just his second ever Premier League start against Liverpool which ultimately paid dividends as he netted an 89th minute winner to earn Leeds United a much-needed three points.

Leeds were winless in eight matches heading into the game at Anfield and supporters' patience in Marsch had began to wear thin, with chants against the American getting louder in each of the games against Leicester City and Fulham. But even with all the outside noise, Marsch was not afraid to chuck in Summerville from the off, while also bringing 18-year-old Wilfried Gnonto off the bench for his Leeds debut, who played a key role in the winner.

With the 21-year-old Dutchman now getting his best ever run in Leeds' first team, he has now scored in back-to-back games after netting a late consolation against Fulham. Speaking on BBC 5Live's Monday Night Club, Sutton believes that Marsch deserves credit for having the bravery to throw youngsters such as Summerville into such a precarious situation.

He said: "I mean he's got to be good enough and that's the whole thing, Jesse Marsch needs to win games and he throws Summerville in. He must be doing something special in training or something which catches the eye because the pressure was really on Jesse Marsch.

"Fair play to him for giving him the opportunity but he must've seen something in him where he thought he would have a bigger and better influence than other players within the squad."
