Jesse Lingard to Newcastle transfer: Deadline day 'hope' and Manchester United's stance

Here is the latest on Newcastle United's pursuit of Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard.

Deadline day 'hope'

A move for the England international appeared to be dead in the water in recent days, but a report on Sunday suggests Newcastle have not given up 'hope' of a deadline-day move.

This is according to 90min, who claim Lingard has agreed terms on a loan switch to St James' Park for the remainder of the season.

The website adds that while the deal broke down earlier in the window, there remains 'confidence' on both sides that an agreement will be reached.

Sherwood's message

Tim Sherwood has urged Man Utd forgotten man Jesse Lingard to ditch Old Trafford and sign for Newcastle on loan.

The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Man Utd this season, with his game time limited to cup outings and the odd substitute appearance.

An electric six-month stint as West Ham a year ago has Magpies fans clamouring at the prospect of Lingard repeating those heroics in a black and white shirt.

Former Spurs boss Sherwood believes he would be a perfect fit for Newcastle as the club aims for Premier League survival in the second half of the campaign.

Rangnick on rumours

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has revealed that Jesse Lingard will leave the club amid reported transfer interest from Newcastle United this month.

The 29-year-old has under six months left on his contract but could be available to leave the Red Devils in the current transfer window as he searches for regular first-team football.

A number of Premier League clubs are supposedly keen to sign Lingard, including West Ham United and the Magpies, who are hopeful to complete a deal between now and deadline day.

West Ham link

West Ham assistant manager Stuart Pearce claims there would be 'utopia' surrounding the Hammers if they manage to sign Jesse Lingard 'in the next four days.'

The Hammers assistant did not play down their interest in the Manchester United midfielder, who enjoyed a stellar loan spell at the London Stadium last season.

Newcastle have spent the majority of the month locked in negotiations with the Red Devils over a potential loan move for Lingard.

Ferdinand's advice

Les Ferdinand has urged Newcastle United to meet Manchester United's 'inflated' demands for Jesse Lingard.

Talks over a loan switch for the England international have reportedly stalled over the Red Devils' request for a £12m bonus payment if the Magpies avoid relegation.

Lingard has been left dismayed by the demands according to the Manchester Evening News, and is now considering his options for a summer move abroad as a free agent.

Enrique's warning

Jose Enrique has urged former side Newcastle United to not give up in their pursuit of Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.

However, the Magpies full-back has warned the club against a prospective deal for out-of-favour Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard.

Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have already signed at St James' Park this month, and speculation continues to mount over further deals in the closing days of the window.

McCoist's view

Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist is not happy with Manchester United holding Jesse Lingard and Newcastle United to ransom over loan deal.

Newcastle United have been trying to agree a deal that would bring the 29-year-old England midfielder to St James’ Park on a loan until the end of the season.

However, despite the player reportedly wanting to sign for the Magpies, the deal is at risk because Manchester United want too large a lump sum if Lingard was to help Newcastle survive.

Parker's message

Jesse Lingard has been urged to ditch his 'Mr Instagram' persona at Manchester United and become a 'living legend' at Newcastle United.

The Magpies have been locked in negotiations over a deal for the England international this month, with the 29-year-old's contract at Old Trafford due to expire in the summer.

Lingard enjoyed a sensational loan stint in the second-half of last season at West Ham United, but has since struggled for game-time under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
