Jerry Jones begs Odell Beckham Jr to join Dallas Cowboys after Mike McCarthy admission

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has heaped praise on Odell Beckham Jr as he attempts to entice the superstar wideout to join the iconic NFC East team.

The 30-year-old is the top free agent available and, if Jones and head coach Mike McCarthy’s comments are anything to go by, the Cowboys are set to be in the mix for his signature. No visits with Beckham have been scheduled and the team is currently receiving updates on his recovery from a knee injury, but Jones is traditionally reluctant to speak on any prospective free agents due to competitive reasons.

Back in February when he was a member of the Los Angeles Rams, Beckham was well on his way to being MVP of the Super Bowl when he tore his ACL during the Rams’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The original hope was for the charismatic receiver to find a team in mid-November, but reports are now suggesting he will return to full health and sign with a franchise by December.

The Cowboys currently possess the 25th-best passing offence in the NFL and are yet to have a receiver break the 100-yard mark in a single game this season despite having names like Ceedee Lamb and Michael Gallup among their receiving corps. Dallas have lacked real star power after losing Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in free agency, and the team discussed adding Houston Texans star Brandin Cooks and Denver Broncos wideout Jerry Jeudy at the trade deadline - but nothing came to fruition.

Speaking during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday, owner and general manager Jones publicly backed the current receivers but made a point to praise Beckham ahead of his decision. In eight games against the Cowboys with the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, Beckham has 40 catches for 558 yards and seven touchdowns.

“Odell is someone that we have all the appreciation in the world for what he is as a competitor,” the 80-year-old said. “I know the Cowboys star on that helmet, when he puts it on, could look pretty good.

Who do you think Odell Beckham Jr. should join? Let us know in the comments section.

“We should be aware that he's coming off this injury, but he showed he can do it, and do it well last year. I think a veteran player, such as Odell, my experience has been when we've brought a veteran player in, they hit the ground running in terms of being able to compete. That usually is not a big factor when we think about whether or not a player can fit.”

Jones isn't the only member of the Cowboys publicly calling for Beckham Jr to head to 'Jerry World'. Head coach Mike McCarthy suggested on Monday that he is a big fan of the wide receiver.

He said: "I’ve always been a huge fan of his… I’ve just heard so many excellent, excellent things about him.”
