Jermaine Jenas avoided any discussion about Gary Lineker and his Match of the Day links while presenting The One Show.
Gary was told to step back from his Match of the Day duties on Friday and ex-footballer Jermaine, 40, was quickly made the bookies' favourite to replace the former England striker, 62, in the presenter's chair.
However, Jermaine resisted talking about the rumours while he chatted to stars including Cheryl and Rylan.
As Jermaine kept schtum about rumours, Piers Morgan took to Twitter to issue a stark warning to anyone considering covering Gary's absence tomorrow night - saying he will judge anyone who steps in to host Match of the Day.
While Jermaine may not have confirmed or denied he will replace Gary tomorrow night, fellow BBC presenter Alex Scott did however rule herself out of the running, taking to Twitter to do so.
The Arsenal legend confirmed the news by tweeting a GIF of Bernie Sanders saying "Nah! Not me" with the caption "FYI".
The furore comes after a spokesperson for the publicly-funded organisation confirmed on Friday evening that Gary wouldn't take up his role on Match Of The Day until an agreement was made regarding his future use of social media.
In a statement, they said: "The BBC has been in extensive discussions with Gary and his team in recent days. We have said that we consider his recent social media activity to be a breach of our guidelines.
"The BBC has decided that he will step back from presenting Match of the Day until we’ve got an agreed and clear position on his use of social media.
"When it comes to leading our football and sports coverage, Gary is second to none. We have never said that Gary should be an opinion free zone, or that he can’t have a view on issues that matter to him, but we have said that he should keep well away from taking sides on party political issues or political controversies."
Shortly after, Gary revealed to Channel 5: "They've told me I have to step back."
In solidarity, Ian Wright also revealed he would boycott his position on the long-running football show following the decision.
He tweeted: "Everybody knows what Match of the Day means to me, but I’ve told the BBC I won’t be doing it tomorrow. Solidarity."
Piers Morgan was among the other fellow presenters to criticise the decision taken by the BBC. The outspoken former Good Morning Britain star took to Twitter to hit out at the organisation, saying: "WTF? How pathetically spineless.. I now demand the BBC suspend every presenter who has made public comment about news or current affairs - starting with Sir David Attenborough and Lord Sugar."
Richard Osman, Gary Neville and Dan Walker were all also quick to jump to Gary's defence.
Lineker described the government's new Migration Bill as "beyond awful" after it was unveiled by home secretary Suella Braverman on Tuesday, later adding: "This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s."
