Jeremy Clarkson tells Millionaire audience they 'let down' contestant after wrong answer

Jeremy Clarkson could not help but wind up the studio audience during Saturday's episode, as their wrong answer sent one contestant home.

A contestant hadn't even made it to the safety of question five when he lost, and left with no money at all.

He answered a question incorrectly after going with what the audience had advised, after using his Ask The Audience lifeline.

But while they answered in their majority, they were wrong and poor John was left with nothing.

As John processed the moment, Jeremy wasted no time in blaming the audience and telling them they "let him and themselves" down.

The question was: "Which of these is a thick omelette made with fried onion and potatoes, popular in Spain?"

His options were tortilla, churros, croquetas and gazpacho, and he did not know the answer.

Wanting the help of the studio audience, he used his lifeline and many of them picked the third option of 'croquetas'.

As he said this was his final answer, he was left gutted to learn it was wrong and he was going home.

Jeremy then swiped: "Oh that really is a rotten bit of luck. You've let him down audience, you've let yourselves down, you've let the country down."

It only got worse though, as another contestant lost a huge amount in a gamble - happy with the audience's choice when he used his own lifeline.

Having believed the answer they chose was correct already, he gambled despite over £60,000 of prize money being at risk - while a correct answer would have secured him £125,000.

But instead of using one of his three remaining lifelines, the contestant instead gambled and sadly lost £63,000 - only going home with £1,000.

He was visibly emotional over the loss, as the audience gasped loudly when they were proven wrong.

Jeremy kept the jokes to himself this time around, and instead praised the player and called the moment "too awful for words".

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? continues next Saturday on ITV.
