Jeremy Clarkson shares health update about his ‘doubled risk of dementia’ due to hearing loss

Jeremy Clarkson has shared a health update after revealing he is at “double risk” of getting dementia.

The Clarkson’s Farm star, 63, revealed that medics have told him he needs hearing aids after experiencing severe hearing loss for the past 12 years.

According to the NHS, mild hearing loss doubles the risk of developing dementia, moderate hearing loss triples the risk while severe hearing loss can increase the risk by five times.

The website states that hearing aids can help to reduce the risk and impact of dementia.

Discussing his health concerns, The Grand Tour presenter told The Sunday Times: “This has been going on for 12 years and, being a tolerant sort of guy, I’ve coped.

“But I was told after my most recent medical that hearing loss will double the chance of me catching dementia.

“My brain is having to use a huge amount of computing power trying to fill in the bits of speech it hasn’t been able to hear.”

The TV star added that his doctor gave him “very snazzy and incredibly clever” hearing aids, but said his hearing isn’t the only thing being compromised as he is also having problems with his vision and with walking around his Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire.

Aside from his health, Clarkson’s girlfriend Lisa Hogan hinted that Clarkson’s Farm has been renewed for a fourth series in October.

The popular Prime Video series documents the workings of Clarkson’s 1,000 acre holding in the Cotswolds and features Hogan, Kaleb Cooper, Gerald and ‘Cheerful’ Charlie.

The third series of the farm show is currently being filmed and is set to wrap production in October, with an air date expected some time in 2024.

It was reported in January that the streaming service had “cut ties” with the former Top Gear host, 63, following his controversial column about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in December 2022.

Yet in August, bosses at Amazon Studios said they while they were “shocked and disappointed” at his criticism of the royal, they ultimately made the decision to continue filming the third season following the controversy as the series is “so much bigger than Clarkson”.

Then last month, Deadline reported that Amazon was “in talks with Clarkson” over another instalment of the farming documentary series.

And now, Clarkson’s partner of six years, Lisa Hogan, appeared to confirm the reports on Instagram.

The Video Prime star dropped a massive hint about season four as she posted a photo of the show’s film crew on Tuesday, which she captioned: “Penultimate week #ClarksonsFarm #Tractor #AmazonPrime.”

In response to the update, a fan commented under the post: “Hopefully not the penultimate week of the penultimate season,” to which Hogan tellingly replied: “...Nope.”

While another social media follower questioned: “And season 4??” and Hogan responded with an emoji of an “OK” gesture.

Asking about the show’s return date, someone asked in the comments section: “When is season three being aired?” with Hogan confirming: “Once they edit!”
