Jeremie Frimpong to Real Madrid is ON as Celtic in line for monster windfall and Man United hit the transfer fear

Former Celtic star Jeremie Frimpong could be set to hand his former club a major transfer windfall as Real Madrid ramp up their sustained interest.

The European heavyweights have closely monitored his development at Bayer Leverkusen and view the Dutchman as Galactico quality. Leverkusen have reportedly told suitors the bidding starts at £34m for a player also coveted by Manchester United. It has been a meteoric rise for the 22-year-old who swapped the Manchester City youth team for a shot with Celtic in 2019. And his form in Glasgow earned his switch to Germany where he has thrived as a rampaging wing-back under Xabi Alonso's tutelage.

Manchester United are expected to not back down in a transfer fight but multiple reports in Spain suggest chairman Florentino Perez is ready to forego his flimsy self-imposed signing embargo after the arrival of Joselu. The Madrid main man's notion the shutter was down at the Bernabeu was met with raised eyebrows as they continue to monitor coveted Kylian Mbappe's ongoing civil war with Paris Saint-Germain.

Frimpong was expected to seal a switch to United in the opening weeks of the window and it's understood he remains on Erik Ten Hag's radar. But frustration amid the Red Devils' glacial approach to signing season could work out well for both Madrid and former team Celtic. The Premiership champions inserted a cast-iron sell-on fee which is believed to be in the 15 per cent region. A sale of Frimpong for £40m would see Celtic land more than £6m.

The move would be vindication for a player who was mercilessly rinsed by Ronald Koeman. The Netherlands boss queried the defensive ability of a player many onlookers regards as one of the finest full-backs in European football. It is yet to be seen if United react to the fresh interest from the Spanish capital.
