Jeremie Frimpong in post Celtic transfer blow as injury sweat threatens to hamper dream move

Jeremie Frimpong summer transfer dream has been dealt a blow after the former Celtic star was pictured in the dreaded moonboot.

Bayer Leverkusen state that Frimpong had suffered a season-ending ankle injury in a recent home defeat to Cologne, while wonder-kid Florian Wirtz damaged his ACL in the same match.

A club statement read: "Frimpong has to be operated on and will therefore only be able to play again next season."

The 21-year-old has since been pictured on Wirtz' Instagram story in a worrying picture for any potential pursuers.

Frimpong, who moved to the Bundesliga club from Parkhead in January 2021 for £11.5 million, recently earned a first international call-up for Netherlands and has gained many plaudits for his performances this season.

Leverkusen are third in the Bundesliga, 15 points behind runaway leaders Bayern Munich, and set to qualify for the Champions League next season.

But Frimpong has previously expressed is desire to play for Chelsea one day - calling them a 'dream club'.

That leaves some question marks on his future in North Rhine-Westphalia with German outlet Sport1 stating European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich were keeping close tabs on the Dutchman.

It is believed that Celtic included a sell-on clause in the deal to sell Frimpong.
