Jennifer Wilson dead: Coronation Street and Casualty star dies aged 89

Actress Jennifer Wilson who starred in Coronation Street and Doctors has died.

A family friend of the soap star shared that she'd sadly died at her home in France last week at the age of 89.

The cause of death of Jennifer, who was born in London on 25 April 1932, has not yet been revealed.

Jennifer began her on-screen acting career in the 1950s and was acting through the decades until 2015 – with her role as Mrs. Bradbury bringing her to attention for fans of Corrie in 2014.

She had a recurring role as Nancy Milne in the BBC lunchtime soap Doctors, featuring in three episodes between 2014 and 2015 – and previously played a character named Maureen Vickerstaff on the same show back in 2003.

Jennifer's best known role was as a character named Jennifer Kingsley in the 1970s series The Brothers.

The show ran for seven seasons and 92 episodes between 1972 and 1976 with Jennifer starring in all seven seasons of the drama.

The series followed the fictitious Hammond family whose lives were thrown into chaos when the father of the family died and his will left his control of the family business to his three sons – and his secret mistress, who Jennifer played.

Jennifer's character ultimately marries one of the sons, Edward – who was played by Glyn Owen in the first season and the role was taken over by Patrick O'Connell for the remaining six seasons.

The show was such a huge hit in the Netherlands, that the cast recorded a Christmas album which charted in Holland – making Jennifer technically a recording artist as well as an actress.

Jennifer's career began shortly after she graduated from RADA, with her first on-screen performance being in the role of Madame Elizabeth in the 1955 TV movie Marie Tussaud.

Other high-profile roles over the years included playing Kate Nickleby in the BBC's 1957 production of Nicholas Nickleby, Anne Appleby in the '60s series Compact and Det. Sgt. Helen Webb in the police drama Special Branch.

Jennifer also enjoyed success on stage – and in 2000 she spent 11 months at St Martin's Theatre playing Mrs Boyle in the long-running Agatha Christie drama The Mousetrap.

She returned to the role in 2009 for another crack at the hit murder-mystery production.
