Jennifer Saunders slams Madonna as she insists she’s ‘not fighting’ ageing

Jennifer Saunders has shaded Madonna as she has shared her different attitude to ageing.

Saunders, who is the same age as Madonna at 64, said she is “not fighting” getting older by turning to cosmetic enhancements, as she called out the music icon for doing so.

The comedian opposed the singer’s plastic surgery approach as she spoke to Kathy Burke for her Channel 4 documentary series Growing Up.

“I’m not fighting it with all my might,” Saunders told Burke, 58.

“I try and do enough that I don’t seize up. I care less about the face.

“When you start doing too much, where is it going to end? Madonna is all I have to say.”

Last month, Madonna admitted to having plastic surgery after concerns were expressed over her appearance at the 2023 Grammys, where she presented Best Pop Duo to Sam Smith and Kim Petras.

The Don’t Tell Me singer also received cruel remarks from the likes of Piers Morgan in regards to her swollen face.

Madonna hit back at the hateful comments on Instagram, as she addressed herself becoming the target of “ageism and misogyny” in the public eye.

The star wrote: “Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim, many chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer that would distort anyone’s face!!

“Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in.

“A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 and feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working and adventurous.”

Madonna continued: “I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start.

“I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.”
