Deadpool & Wolverine was a film that left audiences surprised with its unexpected twists and appearances. One of the highlights was Blake Lively's Marvel debut as Lady Deadpool, but another unexpected cameo came from Elektra, portrayed by Jennifer Garner. Garner recently shared insights into how she reprised the role after 19 years.
Garner revealed that during the filming of The Adam Project with director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds, a unique artistic connection led to her return as Elektra. She mentioned the strong communication and understanding she shares with Levy and Reynolds, which played a crucial role in bringing Elektra back to the screen.
Reflecting on her preparation for the role, Garner admitted that she had not trained as intensely since her last portrayal of Elektra in 2004. To get into Marvel-worthy shape, she and her original stunt double Shauna Duggins ramped up their training regimen. This included daily sessions with Beth Nicely, boxing classes three times a week with Flvco Pichardo, and various workouts led by Peloton's Becs Gentry.
Garner expressed gratitude towards Levy and Reynolds for recognizing the need for Elektra's story to have closure. She praised their ability to uplift and support those around them, highlighting their dedication to the project and its characters.
On set, Garner and Duggins found themselves in a supportive and collaborative environment, working alongside other superhero actors such as Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, and Wesley Snipes. Garner shared a behind-the-scenes video showcasing her rigorous training routine, from weightlifting to trampoline exercises, in preparation for her return as Elektra.
Garner first portrayed Elektra in 2003's Daredevil, where she starred opposite Ben Affleck. Despite receiving her standalone film in 2005, Elektra faced challenges at the box office due to mixed reviews, with critics praising Garner's performance but criticizing the film's writing.
