The mother of one of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims has slammed Evan Peters after he won a Golden Globe Award for playing the serial killer who murdered her son.
He scooped the gong for Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for his role as serial killer Dahmer in the Netflix series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
It was an acting job that Evan, 35, said was incredibly hard to do. But now Shirley Hughes – the mother of Dahmer victim Tony – says he should have never taken the gig.
Accepting the award at Tuesday's ceremony at the glitzy Beverly Hilton Hotel, Shirley insists Evan should have mentioned the other victims' families in his speech.
The Hollywood actor, who has also starred in Kick Ass and X-Men, did admit on stage that he hoped 'something good' would come from his win and the series.
Shirley clapped back, telling TMZ that "nothing good will come from Evan's award" and that it "just adds to the grief for the families of the people Dahmer killed".
She said his award win "replays the tragedy over and over", adding: "There's a lot of sick people around the world."
"People winning acting roles from playing killers keeps the obsession going and this makes sick people thrive on the fame," Shirley told the outlet.
Speaking of Evan taking the Netflix job in the first place, she added: "It's a shame that people can take our tragedy and make money.
"The victims never saw a cent. We go through these emotions every day."
The Mirror has contacted Evan's representative for a comment.
Last year, The Jeffrey Dahmer Story quickly broke streaming records and became one of Netflix's most-watched shows of all time.
Released in September 2022, in just two weeks' time the series became Netflix's ninth most popular English-language TV series of all time.
Monster was viewed for 496.1 million hours so far, with at least 56 million homes who have viewed all 10 episodes according to Variety.
The series was created by Ryan Murphy, who was famously behind American Horror Story, American Crime Story and Glee.
Monster explores the motive and methods of the Milwaukee Cannibal surrounding the murders he committed between 1978 and 1991.
The series tells the horrifying stories from the perspective of his victims and also discusses the many mistakes made by Wisconsin police.
Jeffrey was arrested in 1991 and sentenced to 16 life terms for the murder and dismemberment of 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He was beaten to death by an inmate in his cell in 1993.
