Broadcaster Jeff Stelling has probed Kris Boyd over the future of Gio van Bronckhorst IF the Rangers boss suffers another heavy loss.
The Dutchman is searching a spark after he watched his side mauled 7-1 by Liverpool to make it four consecutive Champions League trouncings. Rangers currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership and Stelling raised a question over long-term standing of the man in the Ibrox dugout. Speaking on Soccer Saturday, he said: “Could Gio van Bronckhorst survive another defeat? If they lose at Motherwell tomorrow or get battered by Napoli.”
And Boyd sharply responded: “You’re only one or two defeats away from an absolute disaster in Glasgow.” Van Bronckhorst is aiming to get his side back on track when they travel to Motherwell on Sunday without Connor Goldson and Ryan Jack. And the 47-year-old wants other players to rise to the challenge without the talismanic Englishman at the heart of the defence.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Fir Park, the Rangers manager told Sky Sports: "You could see when he left the pitch on Wednesday we had to communicate more, other players need to step up and take that role, it's a blow for us if you see the way he was performing."
Rangers still have two group A game matches remaining as they travel to Naples to take on the in-form Serie A leaders before hosting Ajax on matchday six.
