Jeff Fisher’s ugly USFL debut featured players fighting and a backwards hat

Former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher made his USFL debut with the Michigan Panthers on Sunday, and it’s safe to say he has seen better days.

Fisher’s squad fell behind 17-0 to the Houston Gamblers in the first half, and while the Panthers did show some signs of life in the final two quarters, it wasn’t enough to pull out a victory. Michigan ended up losing, 17-12.

Quarterback play was a major issue for the Panthers, with Shea Patterson and Paxton Lynch both struggling out of the gate. The two signal-callers were a combined 19-of-30 for 193 yards, one score, one interception, and five fumbles, two of which were lost.

Patterson started the game, but was briefly relieved by Lynch, who went on to fumble and throw a pick before being pulled for the guy he had just replaced. Here’s a look at how the Panthers’ first six drives went.

Making matters worse, two Panthers players actually got into a fight on the sideline.

The most positive thing to come out of Fisher’s debut was his wearing a backwards hat, which quickly became a meme. Here’s a look at the fun Twitter had with backwards hat Jeff Fisher in what was an ugly day.
