In a recent interview with podcast host Joe Rogan, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance made controversial remarks suggesting that White upper- and middle-class children may be incentivized to identify as transgender to gain admission to elite colleges.

Vance stated, 'If you are a middle-class or upper middle-class White parent and the only thing that you care about is whether your child goes into Harvard or Yale, like obviously, that pathway has become a lot harder for a lot of upper middle-class kids. But the one way that those people can participate in the DEI bureaucracy in this country is to be trans.'

However, studies have shown that students who identify as transgender often face discrimination, harassment, and lack of support, making it less likely for them to access higher education, let alone prestigious Ivy League schools.

Vance mentioned appealing to the 'normal gay guy vote' for support.

Vance also mentioned his belief that the Trump-Vance ticket may appeal to what he described as the 'normal gay guy vote,' suggesting that individuals seeking to be left alone may support their platform.

While Vance expressed openness to various lifestyle choices, he criticized transgender athletes competing in women's sports, stating that they 'cross a line.'

These comments have sparked debate and criticism, with many pointing out the challenges faced by transgender individuals and the importance of inclusivity and support in educational settings.
