Vice-President JD Vance has ignited fierce political controversy after asserting that socialism had become 'a hard term to define these days' before offering an unorthodox interpretation linking the philosophy directly to foreign labour replacement and transgender athletes.

The remarks came at a White House press conference on Thursday, 8 October 2026, where Vance announced that Microsoft and Adobe had been suspended from the PERM labour certification programme.
