Vice President-elect JD Vance recently made comments blaming Democrats for the government shutdown that occurred after the House failed to avert it. Vance argued that Democrats are attempting to hinder President-elect Donald Trump's ability to have negotiating leverage in the first year of his new term.
During his statement, Vance highlighted that the Democrats voted for the shutdown despite the availability of a clean CR (continuing resolution). He claimed that their actions were driven by a desire to prevent the president from having negotiating power in the initial year of his new term. Vance also criticized the Democrats for prioritizing what he referred to as 'global censorship bulls**t' over avoiding a government shutdown.
When questioned about the fact that 38 Republicans also voted against the bill, Vance did not provide a response. Additionally, he did not address inquiries about a potential meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson to discuss the situation further.
During his appearance on Capitol Hill, Vance was accompanied by his wife Usha, their three children, and their German Shepherd, Atlas.
