Most fans of the Boston Celtics are well aware of the storied history of the ball club, owner of an NBA-record 17 titles and a team with more wins than any other team in league history, with roughly 500 more victories to their name than their next closest rival, the Los Angeles Lakers.
But it was not until Wednesday night’s overtime triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves that the Celtics had opened a season to 18 straight home wins, a record that star Boston forward Jayson Tatum helped set with his season high-tying 45-point outing. Going undefeated at TD Garden for nearly half the regular season is no easy feat, and in fact one that took more than three-quarters of a century for the Association’s winningest club to accomplish.
But without that offensive explosion from the St. Louis native, that record may well not have been set.
