Jaw-dropping twin aircraft display will 'break laws of physics' at International Ayr Show this September

Another top two aircraft aerobatic display has been announced to join the list of stellar acts at this year’s newlook air show.

The Starlings Aerobatic Display Team, which formed in 2021, is the latest act set to perform at September’s International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight.

The team will dazzle crowds on Ayr beach with formation rolls, loops and stall turns- and are said to be a 'must-see' from festival organisers.

Piloted by previous national aerobatic champions, Tom Cassells and Michael Pickin, the team fly two types of aircraft; the Extra NG, and the classic, world championship winning, Cap 232.

Using the latest design technology, these aircraft are capable of unlimited aerobatics, which give both pilots a perfect platform to showcase their combined 50 years’ experience over the sea at Ayr shore front.

The Starlings Aerobatic Display Team joins other two aircraft display acts including Airborne Pyrotechnics, whose aircraft wing tips are equipped with LED lights and pyrotechnics to wow crowds with their amazing aerial skills.

Dr Geoff Coxon, CEO of theSKYLAB, said: “When creating our flying display programme, we wanted something that would complement the mighty Typhoon jet fighter and the iconic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

“The Starlings display team do that perfectly and will amaze the crowd with their world class aerobatics delivering a jaw dropping display, giving the impression that they are breaking the laws of physics!”

Councillor Alec Clark, the council’s spokesperson for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, said The Starlings team will be “a sight to behold” at the event.

He added: “This display will undoubtedly be one of the most thrilling of the festival and will leave the crowd wanting more.”

Councillor Brian Connolly, the council’s spokesperson for Sport and Leisure, said: “The display line-up for the new air show is growing more and more exciting. If breath-taking entertainment is what you’re after - The Starlings Aerobatic Display Team will definitely tick that box. Their impressive turns and loops will be a must-see for everyone who comes along to the event!”

Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey, added: “The Starlings Aerobatic Display Team will be one of many displays that will leave a lasting impression on everyone who has the joy of seeing them take flight.

“The team make an exciting addition to the festival’s programme and I’m looking forward to watching them in action at the event in September.”

The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight will take place at Ayr shore front, between Friday 8 – Sunday 10 September.

Festival goers can also expect to enjoy a range of entertainment, activities and attractions during the three-day festival.

Volunteers are wanted for a range of roles for the event. Those who would like to get involved can email: Volunteers@south-ayrshire.gov.uk to find out more.
