Jason Roy hits form in timely fashion as Surrey enjoy fast Vitality Blast start

Jason Roy believes Surrey have the “answers to any question” as they look to continue their magnificent Vitality Blast form in tonight's London derby against Middlesex at Lord's.

Surrey made it five wins from six with a resounding seven-wicket victory over Sussex at the Kia Oval on Wednesday night, the only blip in their campaign coming because of a no-result due to rain at Glamorgan last weekend.

The return of England quick Chris Jordan to captain the side, as well as the arrival of West Indies great Kieron Pollard, have added to the county's white-ball riches.

“The team we've got, the firepower, the experience and the excitement we bring to each game is amazing to be a part of,” Roy told Standard Sport.

“We've always got an answer to anyone's questions, whether they're coming at us or we need wickets.”

Roy had been enduring a slow start to the campaign, yet to pass 28 in five innings, but scored a half-century in an opening stand of 110 with Will Jacks last night, as Surrey chased a target of 147 with 21 balls to spare.

The knock marked a timely return to form for the England opener ahead the ODI series against the Netherlands, which starts next Friday.

“[It's] nice to occupy the crease for a little bit,” said Roy, “I've been feeling good all tournament and just haven't got the runs, so it's nice to get a few, but even better to just keep winning.

“The rivalry [with Middlesex] always brings out a good game, [Our run] is going to come to an end at some point, but who knows, maybe it's just one of those seasons.

“We just know our game and we've got it together nicely.”
