Jason Momoa and Eiza Gonzalez have split after realising that they are "very different people".
The Aquaman star, 42, and the Baby Driver actress, 32 said that despite the split they both "love each other very much".
"They love each other very much having dated quietly for some time before it became public," an insider told People.
"They are in different life stages."
But it doesn't seem to be a closed deal, the source said that the pair are "hoping they might work it out".
The actors had been quietly dating since they were introduced in February last year, after Jason split from his estranged wife Lisa Bonet.
Jason was seen quietly supporting his new partner at the premier of Ambulance, her new film which she stars in alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.
In May, a spokesperson confirmed their relationship by saying: "They are dating. He cares about her. He's in a great place, working on Fast X."
But sources close to the new couple said: "Right now it's not a very serious situation and they're both just seeing where it goes…
"They've been spending time together when they can and making it work between their two busy schedules."
He and Lisa had been together for 16 years in January of this year.
The couple were married for five years and had two children together, Lola, 14, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 13, before they split.
Lisa also has daughter Zoe Kravitz from her previous marriage to Lenny Kravitz.
The pair announced their separation in the Hollywood-approved way with a joint statement.
"We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring," they wrote.
"The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become," the statement added.
"Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life & our Children."
Before dating Eiza, there were rumours that he was dating Kate Beckinsale, after they were seen chatting at Vanity Fair's Oscars after party.

The 42-year-old has branched into directing and producing films and series such as Ko'olau the Defiant One and Frosty the Snowman.
He's also teaming up with Will Ferrel and a yet to be titled project with Will Ferrel.
Eiza is also incredibly busy with her filming for Apple TV's Extrapolations, in which she stars alongside Sienna Miller and Meryl Streep.
