Jason Donovan breaks silence on Neighbours revival amid Kylie's 'hump' over finale cameo

Jason Donovan shared his opinion on Amazon reviving Neighbours after it was cancelled and aired its 'final' episode last summer.

Last year, the Australian soap welcomed back a host of famous faces for the "last ever" episode of the long-running drama as time on Ramsay Street came to an end.

Stars including Kylie Minogue and Jason felt they had to make an appearance on before the soap was no more, but it's since been claimed pop princess Kylie now feels 'duped' into returning for what should have been the show's final episode.

During a recent appearance on Nova's Fitzy & Wippa with Katie Richie, Jason admitted it was surprising to hear it was revived so quickly.

"I’ll be honest with you, it was a surprise," he said.

"But.. I think anything that provides the opportunity to keep people working and actors and producers and all those sorts of things."

Jason took on the role of Scott Robinson on the Australian soap.

He married Kylie's character Charlene Mitchell on-screen. Fans were delighted to have the couple return to the show.

After hearing that the series is making a return on the streaming platform, some stars felt bitter about the decision.

Sources in Melbourne, where Neighbours was filmed, have claimed pop superstar Kylie feels "duped" after returning.

An insider told Mail On Sunday : "Kylie has apparently got a bit of the hump about it all. It's a case of why did she and others make the effort to go back. She and the others were told it was the end.

"She knows what she owes to Neighbours and she would have always done it, but it does all seem a little baffling."

Another star also criticised the show's return. Hollywood actor Guy Pierce returned to Ramsay Street for the final three episodes of the previous tenure and the 55-year-old has hit out at the show's producers.

He called the initial finale "hard to watch" before saying any return to the screen would make the edition "look like a rather expensive exercise".

He added: "I don't want to say waste of time. But still."

The original decision to axe Neighbours was due to the production company Fremantle and Channel 5 failing to reach a new deal.
