- An inquest has opened into the unnatural death of 41-year-old Professor Jason Arday, who was found unresponsive at his home in Battersea , south London , on 14 August.
- Prof Arday had recently resigned from his post as professor of sociology of education at the University of Cambridge after facing intense scrutiny following accusations of plagiarism.
- The plagiarism allegations were initially made by academic Nathan Cofnas, who has since been suspended from Ghent University while a preliminary disciplinary investigation takes place.
- More than 30,000 people attended a vigil in Trafalgar Square to pay tribute to Cambridge's youngest Black professor, with speakers strongly criticising the media coverage and campaign against him.
- A crowdfunding appeal organised by Sir Patrick Vernon has raised over £224,000 for the academic's family, who confirmed that his memoir , Great And Unfortunate Things, will still be published as planned.
